Thought Provokers

in the beginning inthebeginning

The Gospel reading for this Sunday is John 1:1-9. Will these Thought Provokers help you meditate over this text?

The Lord works from the inside out.
The world works from the outside in.
The world would take people out of the slums.
Christ takes the slums out of people,
and then they take themselves out of the slums.
The world would mold men by changing their environment.
Christ changes men, who then change their environment.
The world would shape human behavior,
but Christ can change human nature.

Christianity, in its purest form,
is nothing more than seeing Jesus.
Christian service, in its purest form,
is nothing more than imitating Him whom we see.
To see His Majesty and to imitate Him,
that is the sum of Christianity.

Max Lucado
In Jesus we see perfectly displayed the mind of God….
This is God from beginning to end, saying “I love you like that;
you can batter me, you can bruise me, you can forsake me,
you can crown me with thorns, you can treat me with injustice, you can scourge me–
I love you, nothing will stop my loving you.”

William Barclay
Let us not then darken the joy of Christ’s victory
by remaining in captivity and darkness,
but let us declare His power, by living as free men
who have been called by Him out of darkness into his admirable light.

Thomas Merton
