THOUGHT PROVOKERS… that may help us meditate on the Gospel of this Sunday: Matthew 5:38-48

Peace-making is a noble vocation.
But you can no more make peace in your own strength
than a mason can build a wall without a trowel,
a carpenter build a house without a hammer
or an artist paint a picture without a brush.
You must have the proper equipment.
To be a peacemaker, you must know the peace of heaven.
You must know Him who “is our peace.”
Billy Graham

In Jesus everything is open.
The way is open out of prison into freedom,
out of defeat into victory,
out of loneliness into fellowship,
out of sin into forgiveness and reconciliation,
out of determinism into open freedom,
out of misery into mastery,
out of oneself into God.
In Jesus you are out of nothingness and into everything.
E. Stanley Jones, In Christ

Many promising reconciliations have broken down
because, while both parties came prepared to forgive,
neither party came prepared to be forgiven.
Charles Williams

All men desire peace,
but few desire the things that make for peace.
Thomas a Kempis,
Imitation of Christ

The modern soul is not going to find peace
so long as he is locked up inside himself,
mulling around in the scum and sediment of his unconscious mind,
a prey of the unconscious forces
whose nature and existence he glorifies.
Fulton J. Sheen,
Peace of Soul
