Luke 9:51-62. “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
There is urgency about the Kingdom of God that requires our immediate attention. We need to be careful of dragging our feet. I know this can be a pitfall for me: I like things to be in order and I can consume myself with tying up loose ends. The danger is that in doing so, I miss out on God’s summons in the here and now.
I’m sure God wants us to bring closure to some areas of our lives, but sometimes we just need to move forward. The beginning of this reading says that Jesus “set his face to go to Jerusalem.” He was moving forward toward his Passion. He knew that his days were numbered and he needed all the help he could get! And he still needs us – now.
